TRAINING FORMATS

All training formats include information on how dogs think, how to read a dog’s body language, management techniques, agreed upon obedience exercises, nutrition and much more.

Depending on the class and class level, humans and their dogs will learn basic behaviors, such as housebreaking, crate training, sit, down, stay, come and walking nicely on a leash, as well as skills for therapy dog certification. Advanced work will strengthen these foundational behaviors and build on them to include additional behaviors.

Private Lessons

Ideal for people with hectic or variable schedules. Our meetings are planned to fit your schedule and are spread out based on your dog’s progress. Private lessons are also very appropriate for dogs who have difficulty paying attention in a group class.

In addition, lessons concentrate on your specific goals. As these lessons are in your home, other family members are welcome to join and learn.

Group Classes

In order for each human/dog team to receive proper attention and personalized assistance, group classes are limited to no more than 6 human/dog teams. It is not common to limit classes to such a small group, but the results support this practice.

Classes include:

  • Puppy Start Right Class (including AKC Star Puppy)

  • Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Manners

  • Therapy Dog Training/Canine Good Citizen

  • Introduction to Canine Sports

Board and Train

For people who want a well-behaved dog and feel that having a young, untrained dog in the house is causing undue stress. I usually limit this type of training to puppies/young dogs that have no issues with other dogs or people. The dog is not kept in a kennel but comes into my house in order to learn house manners, housebreaking and basic behaviors. The usual stay is a minimum of 2 weeks. This format is often chosen by people going on vacation, as it takes care of boarding and training.

Day Training

This format is for people who want a well-behaved dog but simply do not have the time to work with the dog. I come to your home 2-3 times a week to work with your dog. We meet once a week to go over what your dog has learned and how to take over the use of these behaviors yourself.

Behavioral Challenges

Some dogs have behaviors that are not only hard on the dog but also very difficult for humans to live with. Often, these behaviors are the reason some dogs land in a shelter. If you are looking to work with your dog to help him shift his problem behavior(s) and allow him to become more comfortable in the world, I would very much like to take that journey with you.

Some behaviors I deal with regularly are:

  • Fear

  • Extreme shyness

  • Resource guarding of food, toys, etc.

  • Biting or being too mouthy

  • Aggression

  • Human and/or other dog reactivity

  • Separation or isolation anxiety

In order to keep your dog on the most even keel, which assists with learning, all behavior work is done in and around your home.  As your dog improves, field trips are sometimes planned as well.
